Steroids

In the book Gym Candy by Carl Deuker, the main subject is about steroids. In the book Mick uses steroids to get bigger, faster, and stronger so that he can be sure he can be better than his competition. Mick goes through ‘roid rage’ many times and eventually he goes into depression and his whole life goes down hill from there.
It is true that steroids give you strength and stamina but you can always use too much of them. If you use steroids too much you get major effects on your body. Some of the effects are acne, cancer, increase of hair growth, and high blood pressure. Since steroids are mainly extra testosterone, users often go into roid rage. Roid rage is when the user gets so aggressive that they cant control themselves and do stuff they normally wouldn’t do on a regular basis like fighting.
Steroids can be taken with injections or pills. People who take steroids usually take them in cycles. Cycling is where users take them in weeks or months to get stronger right away. Then they go off them and will get back on them when they need to be strong again.

  1. Great job Michael! I also read Gym Candy and enjoyed the book. Steroids are no laughing matter, and I think this book does a good job at depicting the consequences of steroid use. Have you read any other sports books lately?
